Christmas Crush: New West KnifeWorks

Honestly, it’s not often we find knives that are literally a cut above…but when we first held a piece by our latest Christmas Crush, New West KnifeWorks, we practically swooned. Made in the USA near Jackson Hole, Wyoming, these artful beauties are the perfect blend of heft and style (yep, that’s the Teton Mountain range etched right into this santoku knife blade). At the height of Christmastime, when chopping vegetables for hearty stews and prepping abundantly laden cheese boards becomes our part-time extracurricular, there’s nothing better than amplifying your enjoyment with these Made in the USA baking supplies.

"New West KnifeWorks has 25 years of experience in making the finest kitchen knives,” says Corey Milligan, founder of New West KnifeWorks, which is totally indulging our Made in USA Christmas decorations fantasies. “Every single part of each knife is sourced and made in America by our talented team of metalsmiths, forgers and artisans. We use the highest quality performance steel ensuring that each knife will last a lifetime if well cared for.” This summer, New West KnifeWorks is planning on opening a retail location in Denver’s Cherry Creek shopping district—complete with the tomahawk throwing and knife sharpening longtime fans can experience at their outposts in Jackson Hole, Napa and Park City.

What we love most of all about New West KnifeWorks, beyond the fact that they’ve perfected Made in the USA baking supplies, is that they’re just as Old World as a pair of hand-hewn Italian slingbacks—at least when it comes to craftsmanship. “What we produce is world class and that starts with our makers,” Milligan says. “Some might say it would be more efficient to have an assembly line but we do it the other way for several reasons. We want each person to feel personal ownership over their work. Over the long term, it helps keep burnout at bay because our team experiences more variety in their day. With the physical nature of what it takes to make a knife, we feel it's better to not risk injury with repetitive motions of an assembly line style process.” The proof is in the proverbial pudding: each knife is guaranteed for life—just be sure to treat it with the respect it deserves and keep it sharp. Sigh….swoOOooooon….this is how our made in the USA Christmas decorations dreams are made!
